Camp NaNoWriMo 2013: A Little Tardy to the Campsite

Okay, okay, I know I said that I was supposed to keep my next novel a secret but I just couldn't help it! The new book is entitled How Not to Be a Damsel in Distress. Everything else is a secret. The characters, their backstories, everything is a secret. I'll probably do what I did last time on NaNoWriMo and just probably complain about word counts and the usual.

However, I think I have luck on my side since I do have ZenWriter and time. Most importantly, time. While it's already on the 12th day of July, and the word count is 50,000 as per usual... I think I can make it. I have faith in myself. I have the inspiration. I know where I want to go with it. I have my characters set.

And this time, I will finish my first book before the end of this year.

If you want to add me, you can add me here or even request me to be your camper! I will try my best to give you the best advice as I can! Please participate if you haven't already!

Charahub: A cloud to store your original characters!

Lately, I've been thinking about writing a new book because Mermaid Tears is taking way too long and will still need to be completed. However, I've wanted to just write a short book - well, short compared to Mermaid Tears, at least - but the title is secret for right now.

You'll see it once I start posting excerpts of the story. Anyway, that's not I wanted to talk about. I wanted to talk about another writing tool that would be useful for not just writers but artists as well!

It's a website called CharaHub! This is how they would describe their site:

Picture this. You're putting the finishing touches on your latest character, titled "Argus" - the quirky-humoured, happy-go-lucky peacock.
He's almost done. You just need to find that picture of the ideal beak for him you had on screen 20 minutes ago. After surfing through a good twenty tabs, the only thing you're closer to is a migraine and a meltdown.
Charahub exists to keep everything about the character in one easy-to-use and shareable place. This could include anything from character description (little body, big beak), personality traits (that mischevious scamp!), or even visual and text influences to refer back to later.
According to them, they call themselves the perfect writer's tools:
Okay, so you could go as far as to say that Charahub is the perfect writer's tool, right?
Well, not to blow our own horn, but with a feature list as impressive as ours, as demonstrated below; it's hard to argue with solid facts.

  • User-friendly, fast, fun character building system
  • Created by writers, for writers
  • Social & community collaboration tools
  • 99.9% uptime cloud storage system
  • Super-friendly support system

For the most part, they are correct! I absolutely love Charahub! I use it myself but my characters aren't nearly as completed I would like to. Here is an example of a completed character profile from a random person's collection.

The best thing is that you can answer questions about your character (if they apply to them, of course) and you can links in terms of family or relationship! And then, on top of that, you can also draw or (after getting it drawn or commissioned), you can post images of your characters! I'd say that's extremely useful, huh?

Insecure Writer's Group #003: Starting & Ending a Series

The Insecure Writer's Support Group is hosted by Alex J. Cavanaugh of his blog. On the first Wednesday of every month, we writers who are insecure about ourselves one way or another talk about what makes us insecure. The purpose of this blog hop is to encourage and help writers move past these insecurities and write the stories we were meant to write.

You can view the main page for it here & join the fun!

This Month's Insecurity: What to expect when writing the start of a series? What about the ending?

I've barely made it on time to update, but here it is! Here's a little fun fact about Mermaid Tears that I'd like to share with everyone: Mermaid Tears is going to be a series! Although I'm not sure how long it's going to be but I hope to continue the adventures of Misora & the crew members of the Ruby Heart to distant lands and to discover more of their roots.

But in which case, where do I go from there? I was thinking of going ahead and start exploring each of the ship mates in their own book. Like maybe add a subtitle? This book would be entitled Mermaid Tears for the obvious reason: its about Misora! Then what would be the main book title?

If I did choose to use that idea, I would need to create about maybe about six books total just for the main characters. However, I don't think Misora, or really any of the characters that would proceed the next books, would ever be completed.  I think characters will always be evolving and I think it'd also be some of a challenge to actually write those different characters. They all have different ways of thinking.

Ending a series would be challenging, though, because one would start thinking if I would have put in enough of my world to show or if I had shown what overall message I wanted to convey, but I feel that since I'm just starting out...Maybe I shouldn't worry so much about ending a series. We'll cross that road when we get there, right?

Follow Me via Blog Loving!

Follow on Bloglovin

It literally happened only yesterday but Google Friend Connect is no longer working! I have been pretty busy the past month trying to get everything ready for my special someone to get here but worry not! I do intend to continue to use this blog. As a matter of fact, I'm planning to continue with the Insecure Writers' Group tomorrow as I'm determined more than ever to finish my book before the end of the year.

In any case, I use Blog Loving on my fashion blog (Rainbow Chiffon) so I like to think I understand the little nooks and crannies of how Blog Lovin' works!

Please look forward to my future posts and hopefully I can get myself together so I can start posting here regularly again~!
